Releases
Version history and release notes for Hop.
What's New in v1.9.2
Multi-Monitor Fixes
The switcher panel now sizes correctly for the target screen, and window highlights position accurately on secondary displays.
Many Windows? No Problem
When you have 30+ windows open, the switcher now scrolls instead of overflowing off-screen.
Comprehensive Test Suite
- Added 140+ automated tests covering window scanning, filtering, switching, overlay, and multi-screen scenarios
- Real-window integration tests verify actual macOS switching behavior
What's New in v1.9.1
Reliable Fullscreen Window Switching
Fullscreen windows on other Spaces now focus reliably on the first attempt. Hop warms its accessibility cache whenever you switch Spaces and recovers gracefully when a window's element isn't cached yet.
Includes everything from v1.9.0
- macOS 26 (Tahoe) fullscreen highlight fix
- "Always show on primary screen" multi-monitor option
- Optimized grid cell thumbnails
- Fixed window order after switching to fullscreen windows
- Sparkle update windows stay in the foreground
What's New in v1.9.0
macOS 26 (Tahoe) Fullscreen Fix
The highlight overlay now accounts for the persistent menu bar in macOS 26, sitting neatly below it instead of behind it.
Multi-Monitor: Primary Screen Option
New "Always show on primary screen" setting pins the switcher to your main display instead of following the cursor.
Faster Switcher Grid
Grid cells now use a dedicated lower-resolution thumbnail, reducing memory usage and improving rendering performance.
Bug Fixes
- Fixed window order getting scrambled after switching to a fullscreen window when the same app has multiple windows
- Sparkle update windows (including release notes) now reliably stay in the foreground
What's New in v1.8.0
Per-Window Corner Radius
Each window's thumbnail and highlight now matches its actual corner radius, so apps with custom styling look pixel-perfect in the switcher.
Better Fullscreen Captures
- Transparent edge trimming now only runs for fullscreen windows, fixing zoomed-in thumbnails on macOS 26
- Improved trimming algorithm avoids over-cropping when padding exists on multiple sides

Smarter Window Order
The switcher now tracks which windows you click and focus manually, so the order always matches how you actually use your windows.
Reliable Thumbnails
Fullscreen captures that occasionally came back blank are now detected and the previous good thumbnail is kept instead.
Visual Polish
- Corner radius adapts to your macOS version automatically
- Check for Updates window now focuses and appears in the switcher
- Fixed phantom duplicate windows appearing from fullscreen Spaces
What's New in v1.6.0
Show Desktop
A new Desktop tile at the end of the switcher lets you push all windows aside instantly. Press Cmd+Tab again and they come right back.
Cleaner Window List
Fixed phantom duplicate entries (gray thumbnails) that some apps like Notes would create in the switcher.
What's New in v1.5.0
Fullscreen Window Support
Hop now detects and switches to fullscreen windows across Spaces. Select a fullscreen app in the switcher and Hop triggers the Space switch automatically.
Better Thumbnails
- Fullscreen windows captured at 3x resolution for sharp highlight previews
- Fixed transparent pixel padding on fullscreen captures
- Highlight overlay now covers the full screen including the menu bar area
Adaptive Title Color
Window titles now switch between black and white text based on thumbnail brightness for better readability.
Switcher Above Fullscreen
The switcher panel now appears above fullscreen app windows so you can always see it.
What's New in v1.4.0
Smoother permissions setup
The setup window now shows both permissions at once with live status indicators. System prompts fire automatically — no need to navigate System Settings manually.
Instant activation after granting access
Hop detects when Accessibility is granted immediately via a system notification, rather than waiting up to 5 seconds.
What's New in v1.3.0
Seamless window switching
The brief flash of the previous window when releasing Cmd is gone. The transition is now instant and clean.
Smoother appearance
The switcher and window preview now animate in with a subtle scale and fade on macOS 15 and earlier.
What's New in v1.2.2
Minor fixes and internal improvements.
What's New in v1.2.1
Close button flicker fix
The close button now stays visible on the hovered window while you cycle with Cmd+Tab or Cmd+Shift. In v1.2.0 it briefly disappeared on each keystroke and could flash on unrelated windows.
What's New in v1.2.0
Close windows from the switcher
Hover over any window card to reveal a close button in the top-right corner:
- Red — closes that window (app stays open)
- Purple — quits the app (last window)
Anonymous usage analytics
Hop now sends a small amount of anonymous data (launch count, tab-switch count) to help us improve the app. No personal information or window/app names are ever collected.
What's New in v1.1.1
Launch at Login
Hop now starts automatically when you log in — no setup needed. You can turn it off anytime from the menu bar icon.
What's New in v1.1.0
Window Preview While Cycling
Cycling through windows now shows a screenshot of each window at its exact screen position. Only the window you confirm moves to the front — no more z-order disruption.
Sharper, Always-Fresh Thumbnails
- Captured at native Retina resolution — no more blurry previews
- Automatically refreshed in the background when you switch windows
DMG Installer
Hop now ships as a drag-to-Applications DMG for easier installation.
